City Slickers

I always say that I won't go camping unless there's a hotel room involved.

We came pretty close to that ridiculous statement at The Retreat at Artesian Lakes this past weekend. We got a one-room log cabin for a couple of nights, which came with a couple of beds, table, kitchenette, but NO TV.

Since we didn't have the distraction of a TV, we did things like read, play card games (Speed, Rummy, Poker), and sit on the porch and talk.

We had a visitor to our cabin...

...but he didn't stay for long.

We even walked around outside for a while (I believe outdoorsy people call that "hiking").

Just to prove that we actually got out in The Nature for a while, we snapped a few shots to chronicle our experience.

The Nature

Not a cloud in the sky, which meant The Nature was HOT!

Some of The Nature is kinda gross (those are bugs swimming around in there!)...
...but some is rather pretty.
What is it about a country road that makes you want to see what's at the end?
And what is it about a wooden bridge that makes you want to cross it?
Is it just me, or does it look like someone added food coloring to this lake?
I had fun with you, sweetie!

Viva Las Vegas!

So we visited Sin City this weekend. It was a whirlwind trip to attend my cousin's wedding. No, she didn't elope to Vegas. Her family happens to live there, hence the trip.

The trip didn't start off very well. We got to our hotel in Vegas in the middle of the night, only to find out that the hotel had no running water. Apparently management thought that a lack of toilets wouldn't be noticed.

But things got better. The next day we walked the strip with my parents, then got all gussied up to attend the wedding and reception. We went to bed late and got up in the morning to attend a Cuban brunch with my extended family. Lots. Of. Food. Then another flight, and home to bed we came.

Despite the looks of this picture, I don't have a lot of love for the slots. I donated a dollar to one, and that's as far as it went.

Feeling the love in the room at the wedding reception. The last wedding we attended was our own!

Having a CSI moment during a Cuban meal.

Garrett had a close encounter with a snake at the Vegas airport.

The Graduate!

This past weekend my baby sister Diana graduated with her Master's as a Physician Assistant! We are all very proud of her for her dedication and all of the hard work that she's done over the last two and a half years. I'm sure that she will have great success in the future.

The Honeymoon

The day after the wedding we drove to San Antonio to stay at a resort called La Cantera. Since we were newlyweds they bumped us up to a junior suite, which was very nice. We spent the week shopping at San Marcos, watching movies, sleeping, and even had a very nice Thanksgiving dinner at the hotel. We really needed a restful week after the stress of planning a wedding. And it turned out that Garrett was a little sick, so he needed a couple of days of rest to recuperate.

Nice views...

One of the fine eating establishments that we visited. After paying for a wedding, we needed to save money somehow!

The Wedding Night

If you think that I'm going to share details about the wedding night...think again! But I did want to post some (innocent) pics. We stayed at Hotel ZaZa in the museum district. It was crazy. Very interesting atmosphere. It was pricey, but my wonderful Sunday school class contributed to the cost of the room (thanks guys!).

Chris Ortiz (best man) surprised us with a bottle of Dom Perignon and Tiffany champagne glasses waiting for us (the glasses are in the box on the bed behind Garrett).

About to eat the fanciest grilled cheese sandwich ever.
